- Happy Birthday Nachan!
EDIT : I've just *now* noticed the post below was set as Private...... WAY TO GO MONI... way to go ._.

Today's the birthday of a friend I haven't seen in a few years now.

At some point, she simply disappeared from the web. Every place I knew she had accounts at, these had been closed or left utterly abandonned. Even her cellphone didn't give any reply. And while I had her previous physical address, she moved a few months prior and I found myself unable to contact her through any means I could think of (did I miss any?). I've tried to contact a few other LJers who knew her, but it hasn't lead to anything either...

Of course I'm curious of the reasons... and I'd like to get in contact with her again, but most of all, I'd just like to know she's doing fine.

I'll use the occasion, again, to call for any info about her wellbeing and / or whereabouts. If you know of Nadia aka Spiritus Noctu aka Tigris aka Kameenari aka aetas_mortus... let me know.

- Bug update
Title sounds like some software news ^^;...

But I'm talking about my insect bug issue. It's been confirmed since then that they are fleas. And yes, present tense :|... I bought a fogger, spent two hours out on Sunday (got a bit boring towards the end) and the result is that I barely had one day of peace. Worse! They seem to hate me now given the bites I have discovered tonight o_O... It's like they're getting better at it or something...
They've also started climbing on my face >.<... Probably because I spray a repulsive on my legs. They're being *really* annoying. As much as I love her, I'm not welcoming my parents' cat next time unless she's treated ^^;;;...

This said, I still need to get rid of these... so I'll go get something else this weekend. Maybe there's a better product out there... or at least something to protect *me* or make them flee (flea, ha!) without killing them.
Number one priority : no more bites. Number two : get out of my house!

- New blog
Hey people!

I have started a new blog for when I need to talk about games and other creative issues. It should be mostly focused on roleplaying games, tabletop and computerized, while also tackling game design here and there. I may also talk about movies, games and such.

This doesn't invalidate the current LJ, as it is more for personal everyday life stuff.

- Augh? Rant time!
Work is killing me again. Short deadlines, way too many things to juggle with within a project... makes me panic and lose north. At least this time we got some help when we requested it. But that's only because said help was on a can-be-late project and because the can't-be-late-at-all project seems so deadly that it could give a serious blow to the company.

Also, I have bugs in my bed. Tiny bloody bugs that ate my legs as if it was candy =_=... I'm washing the whole thing and spraying a bug can in there in a few minutes. I'm now sleeping in the living room, yey.........

And all of this has me quite tired, with a slight headache... leaving me barely enough energy to relax. Thankfully I have my newly bought (but not newly released) Angel Season 3 to watch.

GNAW!

- Link of the day - Nerd
http://www.randsinrepose.com/archives/2007/11/11/the_nerd_handbook.html

An article meant for a nerd's significant other, explaining how the nerd works.

What's scary is that I recognize a lot of myself in this nerd portrait o_O...
Most important facets are : I do like my "cave" and the idea of travel or, god forbid, moving into a new place, scares the bejeezus out of me. The hoping from project to project (with "projects" including people, meep)... oh dear god am I into that one ^^;... and the "relevancy engine" part ^^;;;;... It's true that I'm often trying to figure out things and learn new things... and if someone or something isn't providing this, I'll tend to go "offline".

My very personal thing to add, though, is that I'm very lazy. And it colors all the above in darker colors :/. I hop from project to project not often because I finished them but because they're too much of a challenge (and the bar for this seems to be lower and lower ._.). I like my cave also because I'm lazy to move around, as much as I'm scared. As with people, I have the feeling the "relevancy engine" counts, but also that I become lazy of maintaining some relationships :/

In any case, I feel it explains a lot of things about me I could only explain as "it's how I am" so far ^^;

- Moni's Sing-along blog
Ahem...

http://monele.ifrance.com/divers/Monele_FreezeRay.ogg
http://monele.ifrance.com/divers/Monele_FreezeRaySolo.ogg (used filter to keep as little of the original voices as possible, though it butchers the music :| )
http://monele.ifrance.com/divers/Monele_MansGottaDo.ogg

It's been a while since I've had the will to sing something new... but there you go. Sadly, breathing problems make it a little more difficult, but eh... if there's any problem in there, it's probably not the breathing problems' fault ^^;

- Dr Horrible
I received my DVD of Dr Horrible's Sing-along Blog today and couldn't resist watching it :D. It got a few new laughs out of me and I really dig the songs (and I'm *not* that fond of musicals, except for the Phantom of the Opera movie for sentimental reasons).

It's one DVD I'm glad I paid for if it can promote this kind of fresh take on entertainment... and possibly give a thumbs up to Joss Whedon so he gives us more of his crazies :D

- Yesterday's C&C game
This was the third session of the Castles & Crusades RP yesterday. It lasted about 2.30 hours and it was... half nice and half very boring.

The half nice part was that we descended deeper into the (supposedly) haunted manor basement, leading to some natural caves, themselves leading to the sea. Smugglers were using these as their base and we met some of them. My character, Sendar the Ranger, hid in an alcove with the Rogue of the team (funnily, I overzealously described all sorts of precautions he took to not be seen...... but I forgot he was wearing a lit torch XDDD). The rest of our group waited further down the path and the plan, I thought, was to sandwitch the enemies as they went past us. But for some reason, the others attacked them from behind, leaving us little room to attack.

There was some player tension (I think) as our Wizard was refused action during this battle (he was too far and there wasn't room enough to melee) which means he didn't get to do much.
Then we got jumped by the villain we were looking for. He threw some magic at us and Sendar got knocked out, along with another NPC. It lasted 5 in-game rounds, which was actually about 40 minutes (at least it seemed that long). Everyone else was fighting and such, even the aforementioned Wizard, and I was knocked out..... This had never happened to me and I discovered how frustrating it can be. Being out for a round, or having limited action can be all right, but being able to do nothing at all, not even have the character comment on the fight? Gah!

I imagine it must be similarly awful (well... worse, really) to get your character killed halfway in a mission, as you're stuck doing nothing for who knows how many hours then.

This said, I think there should be ways to avoid having the player removed from the game even if the character is. I suggested maybe rolling dice for enemies or some such thing once it was all over. While nothing great, at least it would have had me participating, instead of surfing on the web, barely following what was going on.

The problem was also emphasized by the length of our sessions, which is about 2 hours. I suppose being out for half an hour might not be *so* bad in a 6 hours session, but when it amounts to almost half the session time, it's annoying.

On the other hand, I understand how the GM was not thrilled at the idea of me rolling dice. He would have to tell me what dice to roll anyway, and it would actually slow down things. But still! There has to be something that can be done :(...

A new audio book podcast that seemed well done from the promo I heard in another podcast... I'll give it a try soon.

- My recent roleplaying
This will be a bit more personal than usual as I'd like this post to act as much as "news" for readers than as a reminder for me in the future.

Since it's very long and... certainly boring, I'll put it under a cut.
